The Author

Albane Fauron grew up in Paris, France, where she spent her childhood dreaming of two things: becoming a veterinarian and writing stories. After finishing her undergraduate studies, she hopped across the Channel to London, where she attended the Royal Veterinary College and officially made her childhood dream come true. She loved London so much that she stayed an extra year to complete an internship at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals - the largest small-animal hospital in Europe and a perfect playground for an aspiring veterinarian.

Convinced she would live in London forever, Albane pictured herself tending to beloved pets around Hampstead Heath, the magical, whimsical park where she ran countless miles as a student. But life had other plans. Several years later, she found herself saying yes to an opportunity at the veterinary school of Michigan State University and swapped tea time for the Midwest. A couple of years (and a lot of winter gear) later, Colorado called her name and she never looked back. Today, she lives not too far from the mountains with her family and couldn’t imagine a better place to be.

By day, Albane works as a full-time urgent-care veterinarian, where she treats everything from mischievous snack-thieves to pets with very dramatic timing. She also loves working with rescue groups, both through her clinic and as a volunteer at her local humane society - because every animal deserves a chance at a great story.

Speaking of stories, Albane has been writing for as long as she can remember: diaries, tales, letters, and scribbles of every kind. One day, when searching for a bedtime story to tell a young child, she remembered that her father had once told her a story about numbers. When she called him to ask for details, he remembered absolutely none of it; but that tiny spark was enough. Albane began imagining a world where numbers were characters, and over the next several months, she built the adventure that would become The Disappearance of Pi.

A visual thinker but not a trained artist, she started sketching little cartoons to bring her world to life, originally planning to hire a professional illustrator. Then came a Christmas gift, an iPad, and everything changed. Hundreds of hours and many layers of digital ink later, Albane had taught herself graphic illustration and created the artwork she had once imagined. After five years of writing, drawing, revising, polishing, and learning entirely new skills, Albane decided to self-publish The Disappearance of Pi so she could finally share the universe she created with others. She hopes you will love this book so much.

The Book

Since the dawn of time, the Island of Whole Numbers has lived in peace and harmony. This changes quickly when one fateful, stormy night, an incredible number named Pi washes ashore. While he manages to charm almost every number with his presence, this unbelievable visitor also attracts jealousy. When Pi suddenly disappears without leaving a trace, King 1 knows something suspicious must have happened.

The determined and curious 3 wastes no time launching an investigation that will take him to some of the island's most extraordinary secrets. Who is responsible for Pi's disappearance, and why? Where did this special number go? Who will be willing to help 3 in his investigation?

Some numbers don't fit in, but that doesn't mean they don't belong.
